Timing
Timing is the most important part of the hitting process. Bad timing (being too early or too late) always leads to an unsuccessful at-bat. Good timing is when the barrel and the ball arrive in the contact zone at the same time.
A. When to Load 1. For young players, a good starting point is when the ball "breaks" from the pitchers' glove. 2. It will also be determined by the speed of the pitchers' delivery. 3. A fast delivery might require the hitter to load when the pitcher raises his leg. 4. A slow delivery might require the hitter to load just before the pitcher releases the ball. B. When to Step (stride) 1. A good starting point is when the pitcher releases the ball, then adjust from there. 2. Stride (step), and start the hips and the hands on every pitch. C. When to Start the Hips and Hands 1. The hips and hands should start at toe-touch. |
